Penalties for Breach of Trust in Toronto

Anyone found guilty of Breach of Trust may be required to pay back or return what was taken, face other fines, and/or may face up to 14 years in prison. Forgery & theft can result in up to 10 years in prison.

If you are found guilty of one or more of these breach of trust offences, the sentencing often results in more serious sanctions and penalties than other fraud charges. In times past, a jail sentence would almost always be handed down in cases of breach of trust, unless extenuating or unusual circumstances existed. The danger of such harsh sentencing still exists today, even for a first time offender, especially where the economic loss was substantial.
