Internet Sex Crimes and other Offences
Internet Crimes generally include: child pornography, and these other offences:
- Making, Distributing and Possessing child pornography
- Luring a Child (by means of the Internet)
- Voyeurism (example, posting private sex videos and/or photos online)
- Criminal Harassment (via the Internet), including Cyber Bullying
- Unauthorized Access to Computer Devices and Passwords
- Other Internet Crimes
We have assisted many clients in obtaining successful results in resolving these charges, and we are also familiar with the ways police attempt to entrap persons using the Internet, for example, by posing as people wishing to purchase or share child pornography. The Charter of Rights provides many opportunities to challenge search warrants and other questionable police activities that may be open to judicial scrutiny.
Considering the potential severity of punishment for these offences involving a sexual allegation, and the ongoing consequences, which may well include a criminal record, and the requirement to register as a sex offender under the Sex Offenders Information Registration Act (SOIRA), it is important to contact Toronto’s Criminal Law Team. We have the experience, the ability, and the track record to ensure you obtain the best possible outcome, regardless of the charges you are facing.
Case Studies
In one recent case in which our client was charged with a very serious sexual assault, our diligent and persistent efforts in uncovering and exposing the previous false accusations made by the alleged victim in other similar circumstances, had a significant impact in the prosecution’s ultimate decision to withdraw the charge against our client.
In another recent case, we were able to prove, by a thorough review of the alleged victim’s and our client’s history of internet usage, that he did not sexually assault a woman whom he had been dating. Another client was acquitted of his charges when we were able to prove that he was on an internet gaming website at the time that the victim alleged she was assaulted.
